How do you remove old window tint?
Old window tint is removed by heating the glass to soften the adhesive, peeling the film away in one piece where possible, then dissolving the remaining glue and scraping it off with a blade suited to the glass. On rear screens it must be done carefully to avoid damaging the demister lines, which cannot be repaired once broken.

Why old film goes purple and bubbles
Cheap film is dyed rather than pigmented through its structure. Ultraviolet light breaks those dyes down, and because the dyes fade at different rates the film drifts towards purple. At the same time the adhesive degrades and stops gripping evenly, which is what creates the bubbles and cloudy patches.
It is a sign of film quality, not of a bad fitting. Carbon and ceramic films do not contain those dyes, which is why they hold their colour for the life of the car.
How removal actually works
Heat is applied to the glass to soften the adhesive, then the film is lifted from a corner and peeled slowly. On film that is still in reasonable condition it comes away in a single sheet. On old, brittle film it shatters into fragments and has to be taken off in pieces, which is why the price depends on condition.
Peeling the film is only half the job. A layer of adhesive stays on the glass and has to be softened with a solvent and removed completely, or the new film will not bond properly and you will see every imperfection through it.
The demister problem on rear screens
The rear windscreen is where DIY removal usually goes wrong. The demister element is printed onto the inside face of the glass — exactly the surface the film is stuck to. Scraping at it with a blade, or pulling hard on brittle film, lifts those lines.
A broken demister line cannot be repaired properly; the element is part of the glass. This is the single most common reason people bring a half-finished job to us.
Getting it done properly
We remove old film before fitting new, and it is priced on the day once we have inspected the condition — that is the only fair way, because two cars of the same model can be an hour apart in work depending on the film's age.

Common questions
Can old window tint be removed and replaced?
Yes. We strip the old film, clean the remaining adhesive off the glass completely, then fit new film. Removal is priced on the day because it depends entirely on the age and condition of the existing tint.
Why has my window tint turned purple?
Cheap dyed film fades under UV light, and because its dyes break down at different rates the film drifts purple. Carbon and ceramic films are not dyed in that way and keep their colour.
Can I remove window tint myself?
You can, but the rear screen is risky. The demister element is printed on the same surface the film is bonded to, and scraping or pulling too hard lifts those lines permanently. There is no proper repair once they are broken.
How much does old tint removal cost?
It is quoted on the day after we have seen the film. Recent film in good condition peels quickly; old brittle film shatters and takes much longer, so a fixed price up front would not be honest.
