How long does window tint take to dry?

Window tint needs 2 to 10 days to cure fully, depending on the weather — warm, bright conditions cure it fastest and cold, damp weather slowest. Keep the windows fully up for that period. Slight haze or small water pockets during curing are normal and clear on their own as the moisture evaporates.

Why tint needs to cure at all

Film is applied with a slip solution of water so it can be positioned precisely on the glass. Most of that is squeegeed out during fitting, but a thin layer stays trapped between film and glass. Curing is simply that remaining moisture evaporating out through the film.

Until it has gone, the adhesive has not reached full strength. That is the entire reason for the wait.

The one rule: keep the windows up

Winding a window down before the adhesive has cured drags the edge of the film against the door seal and can peel or crease it. Two days is usually enough in warm summer weather; in cold or damp conditions leave it closer to ten.

Everything else about the car can go back to normal immediately — you can drive away as soon as we are finished.

What is normal while it cures

New film often looks slightly hazy or milky for the first few days, and you may see small water pockets or a faint mottled pattern, particularly on curved rear screens. All of this is trapped moisture and it clears by itself.

What is not normal is a hard bubble with a defined edge, a crease, or a lifting corner. Those are installation issues, not curing — and they are covered by the lifetime warranty, so bring the car back and we will sort it.

Cleaning tinted windows

Once cured, tinted glass needs no special treatment beyond avoiding two things: ammonia and abrasion. Ammonia-based glass cleaners break down the film and its adhesive over time, and many household blue glass cleaners contain it.

Use a mild automotive glass cleaner or plain warm water with a soft microfibre cloth. Avoid scrapers, abrasive pads and stickers or suction mounts placed directly on the film.

  • Wait 2 to 10 days before opening the windows, weather depending
  • Never use ammonia-based cleaners on tinted glass
  • Clean with a soft microfibre cloth, not paper towel or abrasive pads
  • Haze and water pockets in the first days are normal and clear on their own
  • Hard bubbles, creases or lifting edges are covered by the warranty — bring it back

Common questions

When can I roll my windows down after tinting?

After 2 to 10 days depending on the weather. Film cures faster in warm, bright conditions and slower in cold or damp weather. Opening a window early can peel or crease the film edge.

Why does my new window tint look hazy or have bubbles?

That is trapped moisture from fitting and it is completely normal for the first few days. It evaporates through the film and clears by itself. Hard bubbles with defined edges or creases are different, and are covered by the warranty.

Can I wash my car after window tinting?

Yes, the outside of the car can be washed straight away — the film is on the inside of the glass. Just keep the windows up until the film has cured.

What cleaner is safe on tinted windows?

Anything without ammonia. Use a mild automotive glass cleaner or warm water with a soft microfibre cloth. Ammonia-based household glass cleaners degrade the film and adhesive over time.
