Yes, window tinting is legal in the UK, but only behind the front seats without limits. Rear side windows and the rear windscreen can be tinted to any darkness. Front side windows must let at least 70% of light through, and the windscreen at least 75%, on vehicles first used after 1 April 1985.

Keep the windows fully up for that period. Slight haze or small water pockets during curing are normal and clear on their own as the moisture evaporates.

Read the full guide →Old window tint is removed by heating the glass to soften the adhesive, peeling the film away in one piece where possible, then dissolving the remaining glue and scraping it off with a blade suited to the glass. On rear screens it must be done carefully to avoid damaging the demister lines, which cannot be repaired once broken.
